Minimum investment of CAD $100,000 of personal (or spouse/common‑law partner) equity into a rural business.
BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3 years’ active business ownership/management OR 4 years’ senior management experience within the last 10 years.
EDUCATION
High school equivalent (Canadian standard) with an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) if earned abroad.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
CLB 4 (English or French) minimum on approved tests (e.g., IELTS General, CELPIP, TEF, TCF).
BUSINESS OWNERSHIP
- New business: at least 51% ownership.
- Buying existing: 100% ownership required.
JOB CREATION
Must create at least one full‑time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (not a relative).
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
A Community Support Letter from a participating rural Alberta community is required.
PROGRAM PROCESS
1️⃣ Conduct an exploratory visit to your chosen rural community.
2️⃣ Secure a Community Support Letter with a business concept.
3️⃣ Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to AAIP.
4️⃣ If selected from the EOI pool, receive an Invitation to Apply.
5️⃣ Submit your full application with business plan and documentation.
6️⃣ If approved, receive a work permit support letter and move to Alberta.
7️⃣ Establish and operate the business according to your plan.
8️⃣ After meeting all conditions, receive a nomination and apply for permanent residency.

Completed a degree or diploma (minimum two years) from an approved Alberta institution.
WORK PERMIT
Must hold a valid PGWP issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) at the EOI submission
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
Minimum CLB/NCLC 7 in each language skill.
BUSINESS AND JOB CRITERIA (POINTS SYSTEM)
Points are awarded for business investment, job creation, rural location, human capital (language, education, age, spouse factors), and adaptability.
OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
Must have at least 34% equity ownership in the business. Partners may be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
PROGRAM PROCESS
1️⃣ Prepare your business plan and supporting documentation.
2️⃣ Submit Expression of Interest (EOI) through the AAIP Portal.
3️⃣ If your EOI score is competitive, you may be invited to submit a Business Application.
4️⃣ Submit the full Business Application with required documentation and fees.

6️⃣ Apply for Canadian permanent residence through IRCC.
3. AAIP FOREIGN GRADUATE ENTREPRENEUR STREAM
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream targets foreign graduates from institutions outside Canada who want to launch start‑up enterprises or innovative businesses in Alberta.

BUSINESS INVESTMENT & OWNERSHIP
Must invest in and control the business. Ownership requirements may vary (for example, minimum percentages depending on urban/regional locations).
SETTLEMENT FUNDS
Must demonstrate sufficient settlement funds to support yourself while on a work permit and establishing the business.
DESIGNATED AGENCY LETTER
A letter of recommendation from an AAIP‑approved designated agency is required as part of the application.
PITCH DECK
A mandatory pitch deck outlining the business concept and investment proposition.
PROGRAM PROCESS

2️⃣ Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the AAIP Portal.

4. AAIP FARM STREAM
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Farm Stream is designed for experienced farmers who plan to start or buy a farm in Alberta and operate a primary production agricultural enterprise.
WHO THIS IS FOR
This stream suits individuals who:
✅ Have farm management experience or demonstrated ability to manage a farming enterprise.
✅ Plan to establish or purchase a farm in Alberta.
CORE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
FARM MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Must demonstrate relevant farm management experience, training, or documented work history.
MINIMUM INVESTMENT & NET WORTH
- Must be able to invest at least CAD $500,000 in equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta.
- Must document a minimum net worth of CAD $500,000 or equivalent access to funds.
PRIMARY PRODUCTION INVESTMENT
Investment plans for the primary production farm must be documented and included with the application.
BUSINESS PLAN REVIEW
The business plan will be reviewed by Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation to ensure it meets industry standards and aligns with provincial agri‑food priorities.
PROGRAM PROCESS
